A lot of people think of Yahoo! as a search engine, but it was originally a directory of websites. (They still operate a directory, in fact.) But Yahoo is more than just a search engine or a directory or a search engine combined with a directory; Yahoo is an Internet portal. And among other things, Yahoo offers content. Some of this content is in the form of a "games" channel, and at Yahoo games, you can play free blackjack.

How To Play Free Yahoo Blackjack

You're given "Yahoo cash" to play with when you set up your account with Yahoo games. This money has no real monetary value. (One of the problems with free blackjack is that you can't win real money usually, since you're not wagering any real money.) A Yahoo blackjack wager can be as little as $1 or as much as $1000.

Yahoo offers a strategy section, but it's not well-written. On their page about card counting, they include a note that they consider card counting to be cheating. That's a ridiculous assertion. As Arnold Snyder asks in Blackbelt in Blackjack, "Is it cheating to think while you play?"

But the card counting section includes specific instructions about how to count cards. They claim it's so you can identify card counters, but why would the average player have any need to detect card counters? Absurd.

The Yahoo strategy section also offers no information about how often the free Yahoo blackjack game shuffles the deck, or how many decks are being used, either.

Free Multiplayer Blackjack - Free Live Blackjack

One aspect of the free Yahoo blackjack game that I enjoyed was the multiplayer, live nature of the game. At most online casinos offering blackjack, you play strictly against the computer, and you have no interaction with other blackjack players. But Yahoo offers "free multiplayer blackjack" or "free live blackjack", which means you're actually playing blackjack in a chat room with other players.

This is neat, because you can get to know the other players at a multiplayer blackjack table. One drawback to a live blackjack game though is that there are time limits to how long you can take to decide how to play your hand. They don't want the other players getting irritated because you're holding up the game.

The free Yahoo blackjack game is a java based applet, so it doesn't require a download. You just play it in your browser window.
